Atrina
Like all good rock 'n' roll stories, the tale of Atrina is ripe with personal tragedy, conflicting egos, and the sudden rise and fall of stardom... But seriously, Atrina was the best band I'd ever started, and the guise under which I have since promoted all of my music. Since childhood, I've played many instruments, most of which I taught myself—piano, violin, trumpet, French horn, guitar, drums, flute, and clarinet. And I'd played in bands throughout high school and college. But after finishing my college thesis CD, my own music took a back seat to recording friends' bands in my studio. Eventually, I started writing again and played some demos for a producer friend who encouraged me to get a band together so he could book a show. So I enlisted some longtime musical cohorts and got to work. Atrina quickly gained popularity in the local scene, and—thanks to my aggressive marketing and Internet savvy—found an audience in countries from Brazil to Japan, got airplay on college radio, and saw favorable reviews of our EP written in both local and national publications. Within a year, we were opening for national acts and the band was offered a record deal with a local label. Unfortunately, my band mates weren't looking to make Atrina a full-time gig. So we played our last show in September 2003 before going our separate ways. The Atrina story to be continued... (Atrina update, July 2008) As promised, the Atrina story continues. Everything Else | In additional to writing all the songs, I handle every aspect of band promotion—from deisgning our CD covers and fulfilling CD orders to distributing press kits to record labels and booking shows at clubs. I also designed and maintain the Atrina website, which contains recordings, band news, album reviews, and more.
