Hampshire College
Hampshire College is a progressive liberal arts institution belonging to the Five College Consortium that includes Amherst College, Smith College, Mt. Holyoke College, and UMASS Amherst. First-year students are required to complete work in all areas of study—Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Art & Humanities, and Communications & Cognitive Sciences. In the second and third years, students choose a "concentration", defining their own course of study through a combination of coursework and independent projects. The educational experience culminates in an intensive year-long thesis project.
Transcript | Instead of grades, Hampshire students receive detailed written evaluations on course work and independent study projects. This non-traditional format means transcripts tend to be a bit lengthy—but they provide a more comprehensive look at academic performance than grades alone.
Boredom in Detail/Thesis Project | After studying music history and composition for three years, I wrote and engineered the recording of a 45-minute CD titled Boredom in Detail. Reflective of my mindset at that time, Boredom in Detail was a sonic and lyrical metaphor for my search to find a balance between the comfort of routine and desire for new experiences.
